UNIVERSITY OF NORTH TEXAS ☆ DENTON, TX ☆ JUNE 5 – 7

An invite-only private session, a D1 campus, dinner with the Fam, and a lot of In-N-Out. This trip was one for the books.

When we packed up and headed to Denton, Texas for the weekend of June 5th, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect. UNT had extended Cruz an offer back in April, so this wasn’t just another camp stop — this was a real look at a school that already wants him. That energy changes everything.

We drove in on Friday and spent Saturday getting settled, soaking in the campus, and honestly just being in Texas mode. If you know me, you know I was already in full content-creator mode from the second we landed. And yes — Cruz found an In-N-Out almost immediately, and I’m pretty sure he ate there more than once, like 7 times… No notes. Texas priorities.

~ The Trip ~

Saturday night we had dinner with his QB trainer’s agent, Garrett and his mom, which ended up being one of my favorite parts of the whole trip. It was casual, easy, and real — the kind of dinner that actually means something. What made it extra special? Garrett went to UNT. So hearing him talk about the program, the culture, what it’s actually like to be a Mean Green — it wasn’t just recruiting talk. It was personal. And I think Cruz felt that.

Sunday was “game day”. Before the main camp even started, Cruz was invited to a private session — a small, elite group of quarterbacks working directly with UNT coaches. Garrett was there on the sideline to support, and watching those two on the field together, knowing Garrett’s history with this program, was a full-circle moment I wasn’t ready for lol.

Cruz held his own. His arm looked strong, his deep throws were on point, and the coaching staff took notice. The feedback he got was exactly what you want to hear coming off a session like that. Then the main camp kicked off — and he kept that same energy all the way through—strong throws, confident footwork, positive conversations with coaches. UNT already knows who he is, and that was elaborated through this camp. This camp wasn’t about proving himself from scratch — it was about building the relationship. And that’s exactly what happened.

Here’s the thing about this trip that I keep coming back to: UNT is a real option. This isn’t a school Cruz is visiting out of curiosity — they offered him, they invited him to a private session, they came to his spring game, and they have someone in his corner who genuinely loves the program. That’s rare.

As his sister who has been on every sideline, in every bleacher, through every camp weekend — I felt it. The drive to Denton. The dinner. The field. The drive home at 3 AM. It all just hit different.

The camp season is still going strong, and there’s one more coming — but this one will stick with us. UNT made an impression, and Cruz? He left one too.
